Data Protection

NABMSE’s Data Protection Advisor will have primary responsibility to help schools become GDPR compliant, particularly schools involved with Special Education. The DPA will help simplify the GDPR process, by providing clarity and structure to your compliance activities by:

  • Acting as a point of contact for schools on data protection enquiries and for the Data Protection Commissioner
  • Preparing and delivering data protection training both online and in person to school staff and Boards of Management
  • Advising and supporting schools on the development, implementation and maintenance of data retention and retrieval policies and procedures
  • Providing guidance on data audits
  • Advising on all aspects of data management and data protection governance
  • Responding promptly to data access requests
  • Supporting schools in the event of a data breach
  • Highlighting areas of data protection concerns e.g. use of new technology or developments in case law
  • Being a contact point on all matters relating to data protection
  • Managing data processing risks
  • Developing data and information compliance processes with a focus on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and related Data Protection legislation

The DPA is available to provide support in developing and/or enhancing your data protection programme and answer specific questions you may have.
