Neurodivergent teachers aren’t asking for sympathy. We’re asking to be heard.
For most of my life, I didn’t realise I was neurodivergent. I thought I was just failing to meet expectations everyone else seemed to manage. I masked constantly; socially, emotionally, professionally, without even knowing the word for it.
In 2021, I began a journey of self-understanding. Diagnosis gave me language, but also exposed just how deeply misunderstanding and exclusion had been embedded in my experience of education, both as a student and as a teacher.
